CMDB Certification

The Configuration Management DataBase is a crucial underpinning source of information for an organization’s IT infrastructure supporting the entire Service Lifecycle in an ITIL^® context. Without it, understanding, tracking, and controlling the key elements of the organization’s services and infrastructure can quickly become an exercise in futility. Understanding the terminology, concepts and best practices associated with the CMDB as expressed in ITIL is the key to its successful implementation and maintenance. The CMDB Complementary Certification is designed to provide a comprehensive insight into the concepts underlying the Service Asset and Configuration Management process as well as related concepts in other processes across the Service Lifecycle.

How can I take the CMDB qualification?

CMDB is an APMG-International qualification. Service Management Art offers training courses in CMDB and includes the exam.

The exam

The qualification is a ’Foundation Plus’ level as it is a multiple choice examination at a level higher than a standard Foundation exam, but is not as challenging as an Intermediate exam. There are 40 simple and complex multiple-choice questions which must be completed in 60 minutes. CMDB is a closed-book exam, and candidates must score 26 correct answers out of 40 i order to pass (65%). The exam is currently paper-based.

Obtaining the qualification will give candidates 1.5 credits towards the ITIL^® Expert Certification.

A recognized certification in CMDB will also show that candidates have a sound knowledge of the terminology and principles of CMDB.
